"Jenny Reddin’s upcoming exhibition at Burrinja Gallery showcases a group of her recent works. Whilst many of the works have an abstract landscape feel, they could equally suggest partially buried bodies, torsos suspended in space, partially concealed to create tension and mystery.
Looking at Jenny’s work, you will rarely, if ever see brush marks. In fact, looking closely, the work often looks as if it has been sculpted. She uses a combination of techniques and materials to create beautiful textures and contrasts. Alternatively, she builds up the surface of the canvas by applying layer upon layer of whisper thin washes of transparent colour.
When asked about her inspiration, Jenny said, 'The landscapes are very much about where I live and the drama I see around me - the explosion of the sunrise every morning over the hill; gale force winds ripping 100 year out trees out of the ground; new life in spring. They are also about the sensuousness and flow of the hills and valleys. I have always seen figures in the landscape.' Jenny and her family survived the Feb 7th bushfires last year and saved their home and Jenny’s studio.
Jenny Reddin has reached a new stage of maturity that has enabled her to pull together this exciting group of works. She is certainly an artist to keep an eye out for and to collect and she is currently represented in collections throughout Australia, Asia and USA."
