Organisations like the Yarra Glen & District Living & Learning Centre (YGDLLC) rely on the efforts, enthusiasm and dedication contributed by volunteers. Helen Wood has been a member of YGDLLC for approximately 14 years and for the past 7 years a member of the Committee of Management (COM), and the last 6 years as Treasurer.
On Friday 11 December 2015, Helen was presented with the Community Houses Association of the Outer Eastern Suburbs (CHAOS) Volunteer Award 2015 for her outstanding commitment to the Centre.
Since moving to Yarra Glen over 40 years ago, Helen has always involved herself with the community in some way & over the years has volunteered for the Tennis Club (& member for approx 40 years), Yarra Glen Primary School, St Brigid's Parish Care & Concern Group, Healesville Interchurch Community Care Inc and YGDLLC.
The time necessary to complete Centre Treasurer tasks has increased over the past 18 months but Helen has taken on and met the challenge in between her commitments to her very busy family life. Oh, and ensures she is there to support her favourite footy team, the swans!
When asked what challenges her the most in her volunteer role, Helen responded "Completing tasks in a timely manner". The team at the Centre are amazed how quickly she does get tasks done, so no problems there Helen!
Helen is a great listener, shows empathy and real compassion, well organised and is an asset to the Centre and our community as a whole.
Congratulations Helen!

Organisations like the Yarra Glen & District Living & Learning Centre (YGDLLC) rely on the efforts, enthusiasm and dedication contributed by volunteers. Karen Fothergill is one such person!
On Friday 12 December 2014, Karen was presented with the Community Houses Association of the Outer Eastern Suburbs (CHAOS) Volunteer Award 2014 for her outstanding commitment to the centre that commenced back in 1995.
Karen initially commenced her time with YGDLLC attending a range of classes and workshops. Her volunteer time commenced when she started offering her time to tutor community members on how to help themselves by demonstrating various reflexology moves they could perform on themselves.
In 2005 Karen was appointed the Vice President role and then in 2006 Karen was appointed the role of President which she holds to this day. All of the positions/roles held have been in a volunteer capacity.
Karen demonstrates a professional demeanour at all times, she is always there to lend a hand, makes time for those in need of a 'chat' and spends a mountainous time on YGDLLC needs. Community members have always spoken in high regards of Karen, and admire her can-do-attitude and passion for the Centre.
Karen is a spiritual soul, loves a good laugh, will do anything for anyone and deserves this recognition of a job well done!
Congratulations Karen!
